This month the LBS Committee meeting is being held on Thursday 19th November
, starting at the earlier time of 7.30pm and finish at 9:30pm at the King Edward Hall. The evening will start with the usual committee meeting, and then move onto a debrief of our Bonfire Night celebration. Anyone who is interested in what we’re are planning, has fund raising suggestions, feedback on our events or just wishes to get involved or help us is welcome to come along.
If there’s something particular you would like to discuss please let us know in advance via the Contact Us section of our web site.
Lindfield Bonfire Society wishes to say a massive thankyou to everyone who braved the weather last night to attend our 5th November Celebration. Continuous rain during the day and evening certainly made it one of the more complex nights we have had to work, throwing up a number of issues at the fire site and during the procession which we worked around with experience, ingenuity and a bit of imagination. We hope the delays did not spoil your evening, and that when the fireworks display did start it was well worth the wait!
The Committee at Lindfield Bonfire Society wish to say thanks to everyone who helped make out celebration happen. We cannot name everyone here, but special mentions go to:
Haywards Heath Fire & Rescue Service
Mid Sussex District Council
The Red Cross
The Rotary Club
Riding For The Disabled
Mid Sussex Trident Scouts
Sussex 4×4 Response
Burgess Hill Marching Youth Band
Chailey Bonfire Society
Burgess Hill Bonfire Society
Edenbridge Bonfire Society,
Phil Newman and Jack,
The mystery pallet shifter!
The Tail End Charlie team,
Max and Andrew (radios)
Alison (tractor tow!)
Lindfield and Chailey Bonfire Society Firer Teams
…and of course the Lindfield Bonfire Boys and Girls!
It’s 8.15 p.m. and time to read the Bonfire Prayer ahead of lighting our Bonfire, so sing out loud…
Remember remember, the Fifth of November
The Gunpowder, Treason and Plot
We know no reason why Gunpowder, Treason should ever be forgot
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, ’twas his intent
To blow up King and Parliament
With three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England, to overthrow
By God’s providence he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holler boys, Holler boys, ring boys ring
Holler boys, holler boys God save the King
What shall we do with him boys?
Shall we hang him?……..NO!
Shall we drown him?…….NO!
Shall we burn him?……..YES!
